BBO Bridge2Work Project – How can it help?

The project is supported through the Building Better Opportunities programme, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund (ESF). It is being delivered by Wheatsheaf Trust in partnership with Portsmouth City Council and Solent Mind.  We aim to help at least 226 unemployed or economically inactive to progress towards employment, with 37% progresing into jobs, 17% progressing into education or learning and 14% of those who are economically inactive progressing into jobsearch activity.  We also aim to hold 22 mental health awareness group sessions for employers.

Bridge2Work focuses on offering paid work placements (ILMs) which are designed to meet a person’s needs and allow them to test their ability to perform in the labour market and build their confidence and resilience.

We help people with:

  1. Personalised 1-1 support from a dedicated Personal Advisor to put together and work through a tailored Progression Plan with specific actions to overcome barriers to work.
  2. Informal group training sessions to help develop coping strategies, develop skills and build confidence and motivation at a manageable pace.
  3. Paid work placements tailored to the individual for up to 6 months (16 to 25 hours per week) with understanding employers providing an opportunity to prove to the employer and to the individual themselves what they are capable of.
